School Counseling Curriculum

SCHOOL COUNSELING CURRICULUM

Reedville's School Counselor teaches 30 minute lessons in each K-6 classroom 1-2 times each month. Each lesson focuses on a different topic that aligns with the Student Mindset and Behavior Standards from the American School Counselor Association. Kelso's Choice

Kelso's choice

Kelso's Choice is a conflict resolution curriculum that teaches children the difference between big problems and small problems. Kelso the Frog is a fun and engaging way for children to learn conflict management. All students at Reedville review Kelso's Wheel and the curriculum each school year to improve their problem-solving skills and reduce conflict in our school.

Collaborative Problem Solving

Collaborative Problem solving

Students with challenging behavior are often misunderstood. Rewards and punishments often don’t work and can even make things worse. Helping students with challenging behavior requires understanding why they struggle in the first place. The Collaborative Problem Solving approach recognizes that students with challenging behavior are already trying hard. This framework focuses on building up a student’s skills to improve their behavior in a collaborative way with adults.

Sources of Strength

Sources of Strength is an elementary curriculum that takes a strength-based, upstream approach to preventing negative outcomes while promoting well-being, help-seeking, resilience, healthy coping, and a sense of belonging. Rather than focusing solely on risk factors, Sources of Strength strengthens multiple protective factors, ensuring individuals have resources to rely on during difficult times.

Zones of Regulation

The Zones of Regulation is a Social Emotional Learning Curriculum and Regulation Program utilized school-wide at Reedville. We use this program as an empowering instructional tool to build safe, supportive environments that foster learning and well-being for all.

The Zones of Regulation provides an easy way to think and talk about how we feel on the inside and sorts emotions into four colored Zones, all of which are expected in life.
